What Gauge Wire For 240V 60 Amp. There's a lot of conflicting information out there so i'm looking for some experienced opinions. In other words, how many amps can it transmit? Awg is sometimes also known as brown and sharpe (b&s) wire gauge.

When you have 240 volts at 60 amps, you have 60 amps available through each hot conductor at 120 volts, meaning that the wire needs to be able to handle 60 i think all i need right now would be a 240v 30a subpanel, but i'll go ahead and run as beefy wire as i can fit in 3/4 conduit in case i want to upgrade to greater load. If your panel is old this may be difficult as there are alot of varying styles of breakers and the old ones are very uncommon now. A 30 amp evse will require a 40 amp circuit and #8 wire. Anything that draws that much current operates at 240 volts, not the 120 volts that lights and small appliances use. In general 240v circuits are not for general use but are designed for the 110v outlets are 12 gauge wire, 20amp recepts and 20amp breakers.
