I wanted to try a water based finish for the maple top of my shop desk since i wanted the maple to retain it's natural color. Varathane professional interior finish is ideal for use on floors, cabinets, mouldings, paneling and fine furniture up to 50% harder than conventional polyureth. What is this stuff and should i use it. Sanding is not required between coats however it provides a more professional looking finish. While varathane has a product for any refinishing job yes, he does know (and told me) an oil finish gives a warmer yellow look and does not recommend/use water based finishes.
