Shellac Over Latex Paint. What do you feel is the safest stainblock coat over the acrylic thats on there? I now have tannin bleed, which surprised me with oak. Use a viscosity cup to measure.
Shellac is a wood finishing product made by dissolving dried resin in denatured alcohol.
But i would be careful in spraying a large project with shellac. Shellac was used heavily for finishing furniture during the 19th and early 20th centuries, and it is still available for use today. I used kilz odorless brushed as the primer(bad mistake!!) and 2 coats cabinet coat sprayed as the finish. I now have tannin bleed, which surprised me with oak. I have only ever sprayed latex and latex primers through my machine, or any machine to be honest. I have some wood scraps that i want to tole paint on for exterior use. Minwax polycrylic protective finish water based. As a general rule, latex primers are used for drywall and soft woods, although there are a few notable exceptions.
