Sand off the original finish with heavy grit paper. Sanding through all the grits to 220 grit won't improve the finish one bit. A satin finish material can never be made glossy no matter how much you polish it. Mostly due to tonal reasons. Let the guitar dry overnight. Problem with the baja is that, i think, it's polyester. That required 1500 and 2000 grit wet sanding. A gloss finish can be made satin.
