Formbys Tung Oil Finish Drying Time. Tung oil protects, nurtures and beautifies wood like no other finishing product available. Usually, i hang up the rag i used and when its stiff (the rag) i call it dry. If formbys and minwax are priced the same i choose formbys because the can looks cooler.

Just be careful with the oil soaked rags. Then use steel wool to buff it. Oil/varnish blends and wiping varnishes were created to speed up these poky drying times and make application less fussy.

I've used quite a bit of 100% pure tung oil with fine results. Pure dry tung oil left on surfaces will also scuff leaving white marks like dry skin. Either way as far as i know all varieties of tung oil are a drying oil and will harden if exposed to air. Pure tung oil is the perfect choice for food. You can walk on it at any time during the drying. Actual tung oil is a good finish that builds a thin but durable film that is tough and lasts for years. And i've read that when using water based finishes they can rust and discolor things in time. Is formby's high gloss tung oil finish good for knife handles?
